Winter, 2012
Dear Grace Snell Middle School Families,
Happy New Year! I hope that our students and their families enjoyed the long winter break. It is now time to get ready for the second semester! There is much to do and times goes by so quickly. We are in the process of writing our school-wide Title I Plan. Please check the GSM website, for meeting dates, if you would like to participate in writing the plan. When the Title I Plan is approved for the 2012-13 school year, we will be able to offer more support to the Grace Snell Middle School community. This will include a fully staffed Parent Center, evening and weekend programs. Parents will have more opportunities to learn new strategies on how to support their student’s education at home. Every Grace Snell Middle School employee’s main objective is to support each student in reaching and achieving his or her highest academic potential.
During the second semester, in addition to mastering the grade level AKS, our students will be preparing for the following assessments: January – Eighth Grade Writing Assessment, March – Interim III Test, April – Criterion Referenced Competency Test and May –Post IV Test. Your child has the potential to master or exceed grade level standards and to be successful on all assessments with your assistance. Please ensure that perfect attendance is a goal at your home and that your child attends “help day” when appropriate. I also encourage parents to do the following: establish a daily after-school study routine, provide a quiet place for the completion of homework assignments, assist your child in studying for quizzes and tests, regularly check your child’s Agenda Book and review the Parent Portal weekly. Make school a family affair!
In addition to working hard to meet all our students’ academic needs, we have high expectations for our students’ behavior. Please discuss the Positive Behavior Intervention System with your child. It is in place to help students be more responsible for their actions. Review the Three Pillars of Excellence: I am Respectful, I am Responsible and I am Honest, with your child. These are character traits that we want them to practice throughout a lifetime.
Don’t forget our newly adopted dress code to ensure that all students are” dressed for success”. If you have questions a copy of our dress code policy on the Grace Snell Middle School website.
Let’s continue to make 2012 a great school year!
