Language Arts Enrichment

Staff: Ms. Linda Mason

About the Class
Grace Snell Middle School will offer a Connections class to both support and enrich the language arts curriculum. Learning to read and write is the basis for all learning; students who become proficient in reading and writing skills are better enabled to master learning in all subjects. At all grade levels, students are expected to use words, patterns in words, and word meanings to read fluently and effectively comprehend texts and activities for language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. This class will support students who may need extra opportunities to strengthen their reading and writing skills, as well as provide enrichment for students who are ready to go beyond the standard language arts curriculum. Working on the principle that that there is no “one way” to teach reading or writing, the teacher will incorporate a wide variety of teaching strategies as needed.

Tips for Parents
  1. Children should be immersed in a literacy-rich environment in every subject area.
  2. Reading and writing to, with, and by children should occur daily, regardless of their ages or grade levels.
  3. Each day, children should have opportunities to read materials they select themselves and to write on self-selected topics.
